Overview
This famous American narrative was written in 1900 by L Frank Baum, a Chicago businessman, journalist, chicken breeder, actor, boutique operator, Hollywood movie manager and fan of most things technological and innovative. His life spanned an era of achievement and innovation and also many of these developments helped to fuel this story teller's imagination. His dream was to produce the very first genuine fairytale that is American and inspire the narrative continues to fascinate and participate millions of fans of all ages from all around the universe. This documentary explores the way the Wonderful Wizard of Oz has come to symbolise the American Dream and includes previously unseen footage from the Baum family writings, still photographs and clips from early Oz films, as well as interviews with family members, literary pros and American historians since it tells the story of a single individual's life in parallel to the development of modern America.
