In high school, Ryan doesn't know how to speak. In the movie, Ryan falls off a bridge and ends up in a strange, fantastical world where he meets his Grandpa Randolph (Armin Mueller-Stahl) and a pretty girl named Melanie (Hayden Panettiere). Together, Ryan and Melanie learn how to help each other with their problems, and they both learn how much wisdom they can get from elders like Grandpa Randolph.
