Audie Murphy, played deftly by Barry Sullivan, is once again the child who dons a badge to apprehend the bad guy. On the trip back to town, the two build an unusually intimate friendship-Sullivan passes up multiple opportunities to flee-but Sullivan eventually "asks for it," and Murphy obliges.
