In 1990, a lonely bachelor named David hunts for a way out of caring for his ailing mother. He discovers a bizarre VHS movie called Rent-A-Pal while using a video dating service. The video, hosted by Andy, offers him much-needed companionship, compassion, and camaraderie. But Andy's friendship comes at a price, and David is desperate to pay it.
