Janos and Kata are compelled to pose as husband and wife in order to hide from the Nazis during the Second World War. The intensity and suffocating closeness of their new connection, as well as the circumstances in which they find themselves, push them to confront their past biases and preconceptions, as well as question their core beliefs.
