Rock Hudson portrays an Air Force Colonel who has been reassigned as a cold war B-52 commander who must shape up his soldiers in order to pass a demanding inspection for which the previous commander was discharged. He is also newly married, and as a tough commanding officer willing to go to any length to shape his soldiers, his wife sees a side of him she had never seen before.
